About an hour South of Nashville, through winding roads surrounded by stone bluffs and lush greenery is the Short Springs State Natural Area in Tullahoma. With a number of trails available, and beautiful streams, creeks, waterfalls, and overlooks, it's a worthwhile adventure!
You'll park in the parking lot, but cross the road to get to the trailhead. Follow the trail for Machine Falls (not the loop). Total trail route roundtrip is about 2 miles. The first half of the trail is fairly flat and easy. At about 3/4 mile in there are some steep steps and rugged areas leading down to the falls. When you get to the bottom of these stairs you'll make a sharp right to head across the creek to Machine Falls.
Make sure to get their early for the best solo venturing and uninhibited views!
